BASKETRY<\/div>\n

The most widely used fiber is that of the dwarf palm called “doum”. Women make many utensils with this fiber, such as baskets, ropes, hats and shoes. Originally, basketry was an activity practiced by every woman for domestic needs. Then the items were sold in the markets. The women each have their own know-how and their touch of aesthetics (colorful geometric patterns).<\/p>\n

WEAVING<\/div>\n

Whether it is to make traditional costumes, fabrics for everyday life or carpets, the women of Tata know how to combine aesthetics and utility. Shimmering colors, geometric and floral patterns from each tribe, with their unique textures and wefts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n

Tata is known for its silver jewelry which is often sold in the weekly souks.<\/p>\n

TATAOUI CEILINGS<\/div>\n

You can admire the ceilings, all made of woven palm trees, in traditional family houses, fortified houses and kasbahs. It is a sign of wealth and power. This tradition has been perpetuated by the craftsmen of the region but is nowadays very popular for its geometric patterns.<\/p>\n

THE POTTERY<\/div>\n

This activity is carried out in the oasis of Tighremt. You can also visit other workshops, notably in Agadir Ouzrou-Akka, Akka Ighane or Tissint.<\/p>\n

THE ZGUIDI CARPET<\/div>\n

The carpet by Foum Zguid, known as “Zguidi”, has patterns with Berber symbolism and modern geometric patterns. It is made from naturally dyed sheep’s wool. Zguidi can have 2 sides. Today it is made in cooperatives.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n
