The Madrassa of Sidi Elhaj L’hbib – Village of Tanalt

Tanalt is a traditional village famous for its Koranic school (Madrassa) of Sidi Elhaj L’hbib. This Madrassa is one of the most famous and respected Madrassas in southern Morocco which has trained several generations of religious dignitaries.
Students come from all over the Souss Massa region to learn the Koran and its interpretation. It is one of the eminent religious institutions in the region, whose name refers to the name of its founder: Sheikh Lahbib Tanalti Bouchouari.
Due to its geographical position, the village of Tanalt, perched high on the foothills of the Atlas, offers followers of this school the best conditions of serenity and tranquility to devote themselves entirely to their quest for knowledge.
A Moussem celebrates Cheikh Lahbib Tanalti Bouchouari every year with a procession to his sanctuary which attracts a large crowd.
How to get there:
From Agadir, take the N10 south, then head in the direction of Biougra via the R105 to Aït Baha. In Ait Baha, you can visit its center, its souk and its women’s argan oil cooperative. Then head towards the center on your right, in the direction of Tanalt. At point (30.039482, -9.232462), turn left towards the Targua N’Touchka palm grove then you will arrive in Tanalt.
On the way back from the Targua N’touchka palm grove, you can make a loop through Aouguenz and the magnificent valley of Aït Moussa. You cross several Berber villages to return to Ait Baha. Head back to Agadir.
