COL DU TIZI N’TEST – High Atlas Discovery
Trip from Agadir: 3 hours
The Tizi n’Test road is one of the most beautiful mountain roads in Morocco. The Col du Tizi-n-Test (2,092 meters), which crosses the High Atlas, offers a spectacular, southern view over the Souss Massa region. The road connects the city of Marrakech with the N10 road (Agadir-Taroudant – Taliouine). The route offers a view, 2000 meters below on the Souss plain – to the south and, beyond, on the mountain range of the Anti-Atlas. Not crossing the Tizi n’Test is depriving yourself of an unforgettable memory.
How to get there :
From Agadir, head in the direction of Taroudant through the Biosphere Reserve of Arganeraie- Souss Valley then head in the direction of Ouled Berhil (30.639872, -8.475556) where the rise of Tizi n’Test starts quickly in the middle of the argan trees and continues along the mountain slopes. Pine trees line the road. The route begins to meander near the Toubkal visible often to the northeast.
The valleys, all along the Tizi n’Test, give a glimpse of typical villages with their adobe dwellings. As on a mountain road, you have to be focused and careful.
After the pass, 30 km away, you will find the Tinmel mosque (12th century). Spiritual home of the founder of the Almohad dynasty, Ibn Tumert, it was considered for a long time as a holy place but can now be visited, if there is no religious ceremony being held.
For 4×4 vehicles: Go up the Tizi n’Test pass. After your lunch, the return can be made via routes (30.829525, -8.403268) which will take you through a succession of mountain villages. A great off-road outing from Taroudant. The landscapes are breathtaking!
