LAND OF THE DRAGON TREE – AJGAL
Trip from Agadir: 3 hours
Located 75 km northeast of Tiznit, Jbel Adad Medni (29.767168, -9.248579) is a rocky massif in the Western Anti-Atlas. Culminating at 1,470 m, the elusive Jbel Adad Medni overlooks an impressive backdrop of gorges and is of interest to trekking and climbing enthusiasts. From the top, we overlook the Anti-Atlas and the Massa plain.
The Jbel Adad Medni site is one of the rare places where the dragon tree called “Ajgal” is present.
How to get there:
From Agadir head in the direction of Tiznit via the N1 road then the R104 road towards Tafraoute which you will exit on the left at point: 29.690318, -9.513987. Then head in the direction of Tamarout (29.726492, -9.176878) where there is the possibility of lodging (reservations necessary) and of organizing your trekking. For the ascent of Jbel Adad Medni, there is a possibility to start from the center of the municipality of Tnine Aday (29.748157, -9.230783) to the village of Addar (29.755469, -9.255075) to start the ascent.

A suggestion for a trekking tour around the Jbel Adad Medni:
Day 1 | Tamarout – Ait Moussa Ou Ali (29.720530, -9.184744) – Tamarout (about 4 hours walk)
Go up to the village of Ait Moussa Ou Ali. At 1100 meters altitude, enjoy the view of the gorges of Oued Amaghouz. Return through the valley admiring the ochre-colored rock formations, return to Tamarout’s accommodation.
Day 2 | Tamarout – Souk Tanalt – Azour n’Boutouala – Timjicht (about 1300 m) (about 7 hours of walking)
Crossing the Amaghouz valley towards “Imi n´Tnssit”. Village of Ait Mougal -Souk Tanalt – Azour n’Boutouala to Timjicht (1300 m) which offers a fantastic view of the Anti-Atlas and the summit of “Adad Medni” (1470 m). Bivouac.
Day 3 | Timjicht – Tagadirt – Tinnit (about 1200 m) (about 6 hours walk)
Departure towards Oued Amaghouzen descending by the flanks of “Jbel Adad Medni”. Spectacular view of the river. Lunch break on the shore / possible diving. Ascent to the picturesque village of Tagadirt. Night in a guest house .
Day 4 | Tinnit – Agrensarghin – Addar – Tnine Aday (about 1000 m) (about 7 hours walk)
Crossing of Agrensarghin. The terraced gardens / panoramic view of the “Jbel Adad Medni” and the “Jbel Imzi”. Possibility of seeing dragon trees, when reaching the village “Addar”, direction Tnine Aday to camp.
Day 5 | Tnine Aday – Tizi Ounbd – Tamarout (about 3 hours walk)
Visit of the women’s cooperative where argan oil is extracted and processed. Direction Tizi Ounbd. Return to Tamarout at the guest house.
Day 6 | Tamarout (relaxation or day trip) Tafraoute or Agadir
You can accompany the shepherds with their flocks and help them keep the flock and spend a nice, relaxing day. An excursion to Tafraoute is possible to stroll in the souk and buy some last souvenirs before the return to Agadir.
