A unique Kasbah – near Taliouine
Trip from Agadir: 2 hours 45 mins / 190 km
In Taliouine, you will find the Kasbah of Glaoui which, until 1956, served as the seat of power in this region. The town of Talioune, despite its small size, has played an important role in the administrative history of the country because of its position on the strategic Taroudant-Ouarzazate axis. The Pasha Glaoui had therefore decided to build a large Kasbah there.
The Glaoui was an important political figure of the 20th century. Chief of the Glaoua tribe of the southeastern region of the Atlas, he reached the rank of Pasha of Marrakech before disappearing from the political spectrum for having collaborated too much with the French during the period of the Protectorate.
From this time, the Glaoui left a magnificent kasbah in Taliouine, today in a state of ruin. Shaped like a massive square, the Kasbah and its architectural details deserve urgent renovation. We cannot visit the interior because there is a risk of scree and damage. The adjoining guest house allows you to have the best view of the Kasbah.
How to get there:
The best road to get to Taliouine is head in the direction of Taroudant from Agadir, then to take the road to Ouarzazate.
