The Garden of Olhao or Garden of Portugal
Agadir Center – Duration of the visit: 2 hours
The city of Agadir contains many parks and green spaces. Among them, the Garden of Olhao or Garden of Portugal is one of the most beautiful.
The constructions are inspired by the Amazigh architecture of the Souss Massa region. There are green alleys, suspended passages and water points which give it a very pleasant atmosphere.
In 1505, the Portuguese founded a fortress at the foot of the hill of Agadir. This stronghold of Santa Cruz do Cabo de Gué allowed them to take up position in the bay of Agadir as in several places along the Moroccan coast. The Garden of Olhao was built to symbolize this page of history and the rapprochement between the city of Agadir and that of Olhao in Portugal.
You will also find there, a museum ” Memories of Agadir ” where you will discover the history of the city and the earthquake of 1960.
