Paragliding flight over the Anti-Atlas
Trip from Agadir: 3 hours / 165 km
The spectacle of Tafraoute is worth the detour because the landscapes and the flying conditions can be exceptional. Even if the conditions are not good for paragliding, many hikers will find happiness there, especially in the Ammeln valley.
A fabulous site (29.712209, -8.84581) for paragliding.
How to get there:
From the town of Tafraoute, take the road to Agadir. The road climbs and arrives at a pass where there are imposing antennas. After the pass, an easy trail (29.731128, -8.840360) starts on the right behind a rocky barrier. Continue on it for two or three kilometers until you reach the ruins (parking lot). You are at Col des Mines.
Take-off is a 2-minute walk away, just below the rock barrier that overlooks a beautiful valley. The orientation is west. We can fly there with a breeze in the late morning and late afternoon. During the day, the thermals begin and quickly the conditions become ideal.
The landing is in front of you: it’s the whole valley! Reach the village of Idikl ((29.725989, -8.850861) where the shuttle can wait for you. Further north, watch out for antennas and cables.
A superb site (29.654008, -8.956482), with a breathtaking view of the blue rocks.
How to get there:
A few kilometers from Tafraout, you can access this site by taking the road to the antennas. After going around the hill following this road, stop in the bend just behind. From there, a climb on foot takes you to a west-facing take-off area.
The most obvious landing is at the crossroads of the roads at the foot of the relief, but if it’s favorable, do not hesitate to land near the blue rocks.
It is an easy site with a small difference in height which works in a breeze, especially in winds blowing west to north.
