Toubkal National Park
Trip from Agadir: 4 hours 30 mins
Toubkal National Park (High Atlas Range) straddles the Province of Taroudant (Souss Massa Region). It is an area which offers the most imposing mountain ranges in all of Morocco. Their powerful relief and their exceptional beauty make this park a unique place. The park, created in 1942, was established in order to preserve:
- the highest peaks of the Atlas, including Jbel Toubkal
- the wildlife (Barbary sheep, Golden eagle, Brown trout)
- the areas on the southern slope such as Lake Ifni
- the flora: forests of holm oak and thuriferous juniper on the northern slope
How to get there:
The Toubkal National Park is located 4 hours and 30 minutes by car from Agadir and 3 hours by car from Taroudant. To get to the Park, the recommended route is through the village of Amsouzart (31.012290, -7.831664) which will be an ideal starting point for accessing the Toubkal National Park / Lake Ifni.
There is also possible access from the road of Col du Tizi N’test, at Ijoukak (30.999581, -8.158500) via the R203 connecting Marrakech to Taroudant, by which you take the paved road to El Maghzen (Warning: route very difficult beyond this point). From the park entrance points, you can only get around on foot or on the back of a mule.
