Anchor Point – The Treasure of Souss Massa
Journey from Agadir: 30 mins / 25 km
Anchor point / La Pointe des Ancres (30.545044, -9.725805) is a surf spot north of the village of Taghazout. It is a world-class right which operates with a long swell, oriented northwest. Discovered by Australians in the 1960s, it is a holy grail for experienced surfers who travel to Morocco.
The take off is difficult but if you are lucky there will be a tubular wave along the tip. Regarding access, it is easier to enter one of the adjoining coves and go back by letting the series pass. The spot operates outside high tide (unless the swell is huge).
Anchor Point is a victim of its success especially when the waves are small, but the surfers are spread out along the course of the session. For those wishing to surf in quieter conditions, there is the Panorama spot which breaks off and where there are no rocks.
How to get there:
From Agadir, take the N1 going north (coastal road), the spot (30.545044, -9.725805) is located a few hundred meters beyond Taghazout.
